Leaving the Nest
by Tanashie Jacquecin
I was
a chick,
surrounded by
nay-sayers
and suffocated by feathers.
I was
the smallest,
the baby,
still enclosed by
an air of innocence.
I am
the first
to spread my wings
and head north.
